Potatoes With Drumsticks

Drumsticks with potato is an amazing recipe the puts the perfect use of drumsticks. Often considered good for people with diabetes the drumstick plant has many uses, the leaves the flowers, the roots the bark everything has its own medicinal use. This curry is quite gentle to the taste buds. The masala goes good with the drumsticks alone, mostly goes in sambar and shukto. A simple recipe with gentle flavours just enough to suit your afternoon lunch.

 Ingredients

  • 500 g Drumsticks
  • 2 medium potatoes ( cut into 5 cm wedges )
  • 2 onions ( sliced )
  • 3 green chilies ( chopped )
  • 2 dried red chilies
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp fennel seeds
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 3 tsp vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp amchur powder





Method
  1. After cutting and cleaning the drumsticks as shown in the video, boil the drumsticks with salt and turmeric powder for 5 minutes.
  2. Sauté the potatoes on low flame, add salt and cook until the edges just start to turn golden.
  3. Heat 3 tbsp. oil in a kadai and add all the dry spices (mustard seeds, cumin seeds, fennel seeds and dry red chilies).
  4. When the cumin and fennel crackles add the onions, and sauté until it turns translucent. 
  5. Add ginger garlic paste and cook until the raw aroma goes away.
  6. Now add the chopped green chilies and tomatoes. Cook until the tomatoes are soft.
  7. add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, salt and sugar.
  8. Mix well, then add the potatoes, cook the  potatoes along with the prepared masala. 
  9. Add little water at a time to cook the masala though. 
  10. When the oil releases add the amchur powder, mix and then add the boiled drumsticks along with the water.
  11. Cook until the gravy thickens, add chopped coriander leaves from top and serve.

Yellow Fish Curry

  This fish curry is my mother's recipe, and it is quite different from the normal mustard fish or "shorshe maach". The use of Bori (dried lentil dumplings) is traditional and it gives a wonderful texture to the curry. The flavour of mustard enhances with time as it cooks along with the fish. Bengali Chorchori

 Chachchari is a nutritious yet lip-smacking dish with wholesome nutrition of vegetables along with a subtle – spice taste.
